Animation
The animation sub-team works mostly independently from the rest of the team to put together a thirty-second video that they enter into their own competition. Although they don’t do much with the robot, we think that no robotics team is complete without a good team of artists. Ours use the program Autodesk 3DS to create a computer-animated video every year. This year, they are building off of last year’s theme, help from an alien race. Last year, the animation was based upon the concept of an alien race called the Iikos (‘Iiko’ is pronounced “eco” as in ecology), who we helped in their efforts to clean up their planet and make it a more habitable place. This year, the Iikos have looked at Earth’s educational system and decided we need their help. Our animation team must think up, design, and animate a thirty second video showing what the Iikos do for us. The VP, Morgan Harvey, has been a part of the Coronado robotics program in the past and is ready to lead her team in the production of a stellar animation for this year’s competition.

That’s correct! Our animation is completely done, and submitted. Thank goodness! We were having some difficulty with sound editting, but we were able to get it all together in the end!

Hey y’all! Here’s the animation team update!
This week we finished most of our animating, and all scenes but one are ready to render! Oh yeaaah! I’m really excited! This means we may get to submit a couple weeks before we expected! Way ahead of schedule!
However, rendering may take a while, since we have some slightly complicated scenes.

We’ve begun rendering a scene. Woot woot! WAY ahead of schedule!
Heya! Morgan, your VP of animation, here! Let me give you the big summary on what we’re doing!
This year’s prompt is pretty much a sequel to last years. Last year, we had to go to an alien planet and help them fix it somehow.
This year, the Aliens (known as the iiko) now have a perfect planet and have become bored. They looked at our planet and saw that our educational system could use some help. So, for our prompt, we must figure out how to fix our educational system and show it in a 30-second animation.
As you may of heard, animation has been doing really well this year. We’ve been keeping ahead of schedule, and have met all deadlines. We have finished modeling (Creating all of the parts for the scenes) and have moved on to the actual animation portion. We’ve recorded our voiceover and sound effects, both of which will be able to fit within the 30-second time limit (Phew!).
We expect to be animating for the next week or so, then on to rendering!
